Portable Ramp Questions

Is it safe for a person in a wheelchair or scooter to use a wheelchair ramp without assistance?

No. Always have a qualified assistant present when using one of these ramps with the chair occupied.

What ramp size do I need?

Only you can determine the size you need because only you know the space available, etc. However, please contact us when in doubt. Also, the instructions on the page for each product provides specific size information related to that product. Consider the following:

  • The width of the wheelchair or scooter must be less than the width of the ramp
  • the weight of the vehicle, passenger and the assistant (if walking on the ramp) combined must be less than the capacity of the ramp
  • you need to be sure that the ramp is not too short creating a slope that is not safe. It is best to assume that the ramp will be used by an occupied wheelchair or scooter. In these situations you should get a ramp that is a foot long for every two inches in rise (the change in elevation from the low end of the ramp to the high end.)

Are the ramps truly portable?

If the information in the description page for each ramp says it is portable, then it is. However, look at the dimensions of the ramps and the weights because the ability to carry a ramp is largely dependent upon the size and strength of the individual attempting to carry it. Also, some ramps are disassembled into two parts so the important weight is that of each individual part. Never attempt to carry a ramp that is not within your capability.

Who is the manufacturer?

The ramps are manufactured by Prairie View Industries of Fairbury, Nebraska. They also manufacture material handling and trailer related equipment.
